The Brazilian games market is thriving.Last year alone,Brazil’s 81.2 million players helped it generate revenues of$1.6 billion.And the growth potential is promising for the years to come,when the country’s network infrastructure is on track for further improvements.

In this article,we’ll use our Consumer Insights data to highlight what sets Brazilian mobile gamers apart—as well as the types of game experiences they’re playing.We’ll use the U.S.as a comparison point.

Brazil Is a Mobile-First Games Market

While Brazil is a key global games market,its console and gaming-PC prices are among the highest in the world.Therefore,most players in Brazil turn to mobile,where the barrier to entry is far lower.

In fact,our Consumer Insights show that 70%of the online population in Brazil plays on mobile vs.61%of the total online population in the U.S.And there are many factors that make Brazil’s mobile gamers stand out.

Perhaps owing to the high barriers to entry on console and PC,Brazilian mobile gamers are more likely to identify as core gamers.Well over a third(38%)of mobile gamers in Brazil see themselves as core,compared to just 27%of U.S.mobile players.

While U.S.mobile players tend to prefer casual genres like puzzle,match,and arcade,mobile gamers in Brazil are likelier to play competitive mobile games,including strategy,racing,and shooter titles.

Other competitive genres that stand out for Brazilian gamers are battle royale(25%vs.14%of U.S.mobile players)and sports(26%vs.15%of U.S.mobile players).

This competitiveness is also reflected in the reasons Brazilian mobile gamers play games.A quarter of Brazilian mobile gamers play games for the competitive aspect and enjoy beating others,while only 19%of U.S.mobile gamers state this as a reason for playing.

Now that we’ve explored why mobile gamers in Brazil like to play—and that they thrive on competition—we’ll turn the spotlight onto how publishers can cater to Brazil’s mobile gamers.

Only 18%of Brazilian mobile gamers find puzzle-solving possibilities appealing,compared to a striking 42%of U.S.mobile gamers.

Given these preferences,many gamers in Brazil would likely be interested in experimenting with game libraries on console and PC(where these experiences take center stage).To that end,Brazil’s government introduced a tax reduction for consoles,games,and hardware last month.
